writes: Growing up in Dumbarton in the 1940s, we were
very fortunate to have Educational programmes given by the
Dumbarton Equitable Society Inc. Education
Dumbarton. My sisters, Moira, Yvonne and myself were
members of both the elocution classes and the Juvenile
Choir. We practiced once a week and competed in a yearly
festival held in Paisley. The room we practiced in was down
a lane at the side of the Co-op (the stalls for the Town
Clydesdales were farther down this lane) and climbed some
stairs to a second floor large room with a piano. There we learned our poems and songs for the
yearly Festival in Paisley and concert in Dumbarton.
