Dumbarton
Miscellany
|
Why a miscellany? For the subjects we've looked at so far which don't fit into any of the other catagories. The miscellany is divided into three sections - c, d, e, - where c is churches, d is domestic life and e is....everything else! bbb |

A look at three local churches of different denominations - the Riverside, St Patrick's and St Augustine's. As well as being centres of worship, churches played an important part in people's social life. Photos include amateur dramatics societies, bands, children's groups, outings, etc. |

Before the camera and flash became available to all few photos were taken of domestic life. This section features photos of families and homes in and around Dumbarton. There are also recordings describing various aspects of domestic life, from chimney sweeps to family bath-nights using a zinc bath in front of the kitchen range. |

Divided into four sections - adverts, parades and celebrations, Dumbarton characatures and a profile of the Porciani family, who ran fish and chips shops in the town for over ninety years. To see some of the adverts, click here. |
